Project Runway Season 5 Season Finale Part 1
By: Amy Vedder
All four designers return to the Runway only to discover that there is still one more challenge before the final three can move on to Bryant Park. Perhaps you thought the elimination challenge would be all about the wedding dress. Well that was partly true, because as soon as the designers return they learn that they will have to design one more look. Their last challenge before Bryant Park is to design a bridesmaid dress to go with their wedding dress and that reflects their collection as a whole.
Leanne and Kenley get the judges approval and are permitted to move on and show their collection at Bryant Park; even though Kenley’s wedding dress is almost identical to a Alexander McQueen wedding dress. Apparently Kenley’s bridesmaid dress which the judges loved was enough to push her through and to get her a spot in the top three.
Jerell and Korto were not so lucky. They both got called out on the runway. Korto for presenting a wedding dress that was way overworked and for a bridesmaid dress that was way under worked. Jarell got it from the judges for creating a look that was way too over embellished. When it came to the jewels and embellishments he just didn’t know when to stop, which made his wedding dress look like a home crafted garment rather than an elegant wedding dress.
Ultimately, Jerell got Auf’d. And I don’t blame the judges at all. We all would have liked to see Kenley go. Her attitude has been awful and she is very unlikable, but when it comes to making clothes, she’s good. But Jerell has been very hit and miss. And unfortunately for him, the wedding dress was a miss, and he had to go.
So the Final Episode of Season Five is finally upon us. Who will be the winner? That’s a tough one. Right now I’m putting my money on Leanne. Her work has always been creative and consistent. What we got to see of her collection looks amazing. Her concept if mimicking the movement of water is incredible. But Kenley or Korto shouldn’t be underestimated. They are both incredible designers as well.
When it comes down to it, I don’t know who will win. And that’s the way it should be. I can’t wait to watch what happens.
