He’s the leader of the Party right? He’s the guy guiding the ship and plotting the course right? He’s the one the party is looking to for guidance right?
Well not really.
Michael Steel said on Tuesday, “The era of apologizing for Republican mistakes of the past is now officially over.” But is it really? Or has it just begun.
Here’s the problem. The era of Republican apologizing has yet to even begin. We’re not done with damage control yet and dealing with the pile of mess left to us by the Bush administration.
And Dick Cheney, who was mysteriously absent the whole time in office, has suddenly emerged from his bunker making the situation even worse. In truth, the more Dick Cheney talks, the more prolonged the era of apologizing will go on.
Is Michael Steele in charge of the party? Then why doesn’t he tell Dick Cheney to go back to his undisclosed location and to do some fishing? Why would he let Cheney erode what is left of the Party if he had the power and authority to stop him? The answer is he can’t. Why, because Michael Steele is a toothless tiger, who is likely to suffer from more de-masculinisation yet. This leadership issue and who is in charge of the Party is the issue and the real problem, and it’s a problem that goes deeper than just talk and who is saying what.
Fox News is reporting that there is yet another struggle; this one taking place within the Republican National Committee. The struggle is over money and who will control spending. Steele told Fox News that if the committee members strip him of the authority to manage the money, then he will step aside. Steele said of the Republican National Committee, “"They can contemplate all they want to, but the reality is if they want a figurehead chairman you can have a figurehead chairman, but it won't be Michael Steele."
Which brings us back to the original question, Michael Steele is the leader of the Party, right?
