New Movie Releases for June 19, 2009

This week, two major-release movies are coming to theaters near you. If you’re looking for laughs, hopefully one of these comedies will pique your interest.

The Proposal
Anne Fletcher directs this romantic comedy. Margaret Tate (Sandra Bullock), the editor-in-chief of a large bookselling company, is a native Canadian who faces deportation to her home country. To avoid going, she pretends to be engaged to her assistant, Andrew (Ryan Reynolds), who has resented her for years. He reluctantly agrees to the trick and takes his boss home to meet his family in Alaska. The unlikely couple struggles at first, but starts to genuinely fall in love as they spend time together and work through various mishaps. Rated PG-13, 107 mins.

Year One
A comedy from director Harold Ramis. Two hunter-gathers, Zed (Jack Black) and Oh (Michael Cera), are thrown out of their village and forced to wander through the world of ancient civilization. Along the way, they run into Biblical figures ranging from Abraham (Hank Azaria) to Adam and Eve (Ramis and Rhoda Griffis), and others. On the way, they contemplate the meaning of life in a style that both Black and Cera have compared to the Monty Python movies. Rated PG-13.
