| |
On this Independence Day weekend, most of the blockbusters come out on Wednesday instead of the usual Friday. If you have free time to make it to a theater before the holiday weekend, there are some potential blockbusters.
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
Manny (Ray Romano) and his friends return for another adventure, but their lives have changed. Manny and his wife, Ellie (Queen Latifah) are expecting a baby and Manny wants to make things right for their new arrival. Since Sid (John Leguizamo) wants a family of his own, he tries to steal some dinosaur eggs. However, he ends up in a mysterious world where dinosaurs run free and the herd has to rescue him, stay out of danger, and deal with a dinosaur-hunting weasel, Buck (Simon Pegg). Rated PG, 87 mins.
Public Enemies
Michael Mann’s film adaptation of Bryan Burrough’s book, Public Enemies: America's Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933–34. During the Great Depression, FBI agent Melvis Purvis went after some of the most notorious bank robbers and criminals of the era. Christian Bale plays Purvis as he tries to track down John Dillinger (Johnny Depp) and Pretty Boy Floyd (Channing Tatum) and stop their crime sprees even while many people idolized them. Rated R, 143 mins.
I Hate Valentine’s Day
Nia Vardalos (of My Big Fat Greek Wedding fame) directs and stars in this romantic comedy. She plays Genevieve, a Brooklyn florist who likes the dating scene, but is afraid to make a commitment. Whenever she finds a man she is interested in, she goes out on a maximum of five dates before she dumps him. However, this all changes after she meets Greg (John Corbett) a restaurant owner who works next to her shop and encourages her to change her thoughts about love. Rated PG-13, 98 mins.
