Two Grammy Award-winning Jazzmen at World Cafe Live Philadelphia & Wilmington

World Cafe Live is pleased to bring two Grammy-Award winning jazz artists to both our venues. The New Gary Burton Quartet  will perform at World Cafe Live Philadelphia on Tuesday, September 27th and David Sanborn will perform at World Cafe Live Wilmington in Delaware on Wednesday, October 12th.

New Gary Burton Quartet

Famed vibraphonist Gary Burton is performing as the New Gary Burton Quartet at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia on Tuesday, September 27th at 8pm. For this show he’ll be performing with guitarist Julian Lage, percussionist Antonio Sanchez  and bassist Scott Colley.

Burton is one of the great vibraphonists to emerge from the 1960’s and is known for his unique four-mallet technique. Since his appearance in the ‘60s, the Grammy Award-winner has released a number of albums under the biggest record labels including RCA Victor, Atlantic Records, ECM Records, and GRP Records. In the ‘70s, he began teaching music at Berklee College of Music in Boston where he eventually became Executive Vice president.

After retiring from Berklee College of Music he kept busy collaborating & recording with artists while touring.  In June 2011, Burton released his first album, Common Ground, on Mac Avenue Records as the New Gary Burton Quartet.

David Sanborn

Grammy Award-winning saxophonist, David Sanborn is performing at World Cafe Live in Wilmington, DE on Wednesday, October 12th.

A career that spans more than 30 years and has spawned 24 albums, 8 of them going Gold and 1 of them Platinum, 6 Grammy Awards, and doesn’t show any sign of slowing down.

The alto saxophonist began playing at a young age when he suffered from polio and used playing to strengthen his lungs and chest muscles. He quickly grew fond of the instrument and explored many areas of jazz in his youth. He has been named one of the greatest saxophonists of all time and has been the most influential saxophonist on pop, R&B, & crossover.

In recent years, Sanborn released Here & Gone, produced by legendary Phil Ramone & features guest appearances from artists including Eric Clapton, Sam Moore, and Joss Stone. In 2010, he released Only Everything which pays tribute to the late Ray Charles and explores the bluesy R&B style he is most recognized for. The album features Joey DeFrancesco who will be opening for Sanborn at this show.
