The Mann Center presents The Machine Provided by Mann Center for the Performing Arts |
| |
The Mann Center for the Performing Arts presents The Machine, the quintessential Pink Floyd cover band now celebrating its 20th anniversary tour on Friday, July 25 at 8:00 pm. Backed by a full symphony orchestra, Pink Floyd enthusiasts will also experience a spellbinding laser light show.
When singer/guitarist, Joe Pascarell, and drummer Todd Cohen co-founded The Machine 20 years ago, it wasn’t their intention to forge a career paying homage to Pink Floyd…they were simply playing music that resonated with them personally. But they began to notice that when they performed music from Pink Floyd’s 16-album repertoire, including The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon, the audiences’ reaction was so powerful and positive, the group began focusing exclusively on Pink Floyd’s music.
So just what is it about the works of Pink Floyd that continue to attract fans ages 15 to 80? The answer is simple: It’s timeless, classic music that resonates with every generation. The Machine (taken from the song, “Welcome to the Machine”) offers more than carefully recreated and cleverly reinterpreted songs - it provides concert-goers with a multi-media experience that includes an elaborate mind-blowing laser show which dazzles and delights, conceived by the same designers who orchestrated renowned Pink Floyd bassist Roger Water’s light show during his sold-out 2007 tour, “The Dark Side of the Moon.”
Also appearing will be the saxophonist who caused a stirring sensation during Roger Water’s tour last year, Norbert Stachel. Rounding out the band will be Joe Pascarell (vocals & guitar); Todd Cohen (drums); Ryan Ball (bass); and Scott Chasolen (keyboards and vocals.)
Performing with The Machine will be the Delaware Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Sarah Hatsuko Hicks. Named by The New York Times as part of “the next generation of up-and-coming American conductors,” Ms. Hicks, a Curtis Institute of Music graduate is a committed proponent of new music who regularly leads the Curtis Symphony Orchestra in readings, recordings and performances of contemporary works and is also conductor of the University of Pennsylvania’s Penn Composers Project.
