Quitting Smoking: Now is Your Time

Quitting Smoking: Now is Your TimeI’m not going to go into all the dangers associated with smoking. You’ve heard it all before and there isn’t anyone who doesn’t know that smoking is bad for them. Let’s instead try to focus on the some natural ways to quit the habit.

Cold turkey is of course a well know and completely natural way to quit smoking. And honestly, it may be the easiest way to quit, in that, it doesn’t require you to do anything, nothing to buy, no prescriptions to fill or steps to remember. You just simply stop and don’t smoke again. The problem with cold turkey is that the withdraw symptoms can be so overwhelming that it often leads back to smoking or a bad mood that goes on month after month.

Consider the following modified cold turkey method:

Quit today. Make the decision that you are now a nonsmoker and don’t smoke anymore that is the first step.

Supplemental help. Consider adding the following supplements to your diet: Co Q10, to help increase oxygen flow to the brain as well as to protect heart tissue, Vitamin C, to help protect against cell damage, Vitamin B Complex for energy and to help repair cellular enzyme systems that may have been damaged by smoking, and Vitamin E to help protect the heart as well as it’s getting its needed antioxidant properties.

Fresh Vegetable Juice. Many people have found success in quitting smoking by dramatically increasing their intake of fresh vegetable juice. Some people go on one week fasts in which they only ingest fresh vegetable juices whereas some people just add two to three fresh juices to their daily meals. Fresh vegetable juice is very effective at removing nicotine from the body.

Be ready for cravings. The average cigarette craving only lasts about five minutes, which means you only have to get through a matter of minutes to beat the habit. Be ready for when those cravings hit. Have activities planned and ready to go when you get the urge. Take a walk, sing a song, touch your toes, whatever it is, be ready with an alternative activity when you’re hit with the craving to smoke.

Get a quit smoking buddy. Let’s face it, tough things are easier to face when we have someone to lean on for support. If you’re ready to quit find someone who is also quitting and use each other for support. Sometimes all you need is a voice on the other end of the phone telling you that you can do it. Not to mention helping them along will only strengthen your reserve to quit the habit once and for all.

Quitting smoking isn’t going to be easy, in fact it is considered a harder substance to quit than heroine, but the one thing you definitely need to do is make the decision to stop, that literally is half the battle.
