Glastonbury Organizers Deny Pink Floyd Snub
Those behind Britain's Glastonbury festival say they weren't trying to deny the late Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright his last request. According to the UK "Guardian," guitarist David Gilmour said during Monday's "Q" Awards that a final wish of Wright's was to perform at the famed event, but that never happened, quote, "for all sorts of strange reasons." But festival organizer Emily Eavis notes there wasn't anything "strange" about it -- it was a matter of logistics. She says event planners were "obviously upset" by Gilmour's remarks, telling BBC 6 Music, quote, "I think maybe he has been misinformed by someone that it was some sort of thing about them, but it wasn't at all, it was just purely because we couldn't fit them on anywhere." She explains that the rockers' people contacted her team just three weeks before the festival, and they just didn't feel that they could bump one of the slated headliners to accommodate Gilmour and Wright -- although she admits they considered it. The three-day Glastonbury festival, featuring headliners Kings of Leon, Jay-Z, and The Verve, took place in late June. Wright died of cancer two-and-a-half-months later.
