Celebrating John Lennon's Birthday With Paint-In
The late John Lennon will be remembered Thursday with an art event in Denver. Hundreds of people are expected to gather in the city's Civic Center Park for the Imagine Peace Paint-In, featuring a full day of painting, music, and messages of peace. May Pang will be the featured guest speaker at the event. She was the former Beatle's one-time assistant and Lennon's companion in the mid-1970s during his 18-month "lost weekend," when he was estranged from wife Yoko Ono. Firefall frontman Jock Bartley has been tapped as the musical headliner. The Imagine Peace Paint-In has received an endorsement from Ono. Lennon's widow sent a letter to organizers saying she thought the event "sounds really good," and she was pleased that Denver was conducting its celebration, quote, "in style - an event in the park."
The Paint-In is also serving as a fundraiser for state and local peace groups, domestic violence organizations, and anti-gang initiatives. Thursday would have been Lennon's 68th birthday. |
