Elvis Is Alive Museum Closing Today
It's the final day to visit The Elvis Is Alive Museum. Owner Andy Key says on the museum's website that he'll be closing for good at the end of the day Thursday, noting, quote, "the situation requires it." He tells the "St. Louis Post-Dispatch" the "situation," noting that he's a member of the National Guard and has to report for training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri next week, so he can't continue running the museum. Key tried to keep the museum going, with two unsuccessful attempts to find a new owner via eBay auctions. That's how he acquired the museum last year, when original owner, Bill Beeney, put the memorabilia up for sale. It's possible the museum will just go on a lengthy hiatus, since Key also says on the website post that he'll be packing up the artifacts and placing them in storage until he returns. However, he doesn't indicate whether he intends to reopen once he's finished his military commitment. The Elvis Is Alive Museum is home to a vast collection of photos, documents, articles, and other Presley-related items, with the goal of proving that The King of Rock 'n' Roll didn't really die back in 1977. Beeney opened museum in Wright City, Missouri in 1990. Key purchased it last November with a winning bid of 83-hundred-dollars, and moved it to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where it opened in its new location in June.
