"The Early Show" Anchor Explains Origins Of His Country Song
"The Early Show's" Harry Smith says his song "The Red States, Blue States Blues" came about in a rather spontaneous way. The CBS morning program was going to air from Nashville in conjunction with the second presidential debate, and Smith explains that he was inspired to take on the challenge of writing and recording a country song when one of the show's producers pitched another idea for a country music-related segment. Smith admits he's not a recording artist. But the newsman is getting some positive reviews for his song. Singer-songwriter and recent "Nashville Star" judge Jeffrey Steele says he's impressed with "The Red State, Blue State Blues," which Smith recorded as a duet with Sarah Darling. When asked to rate the song, Steele ave it an eight out of ten.
