The Eagles Among Leading American Music Awards Nominees
The Eagles are among the top nominees for this weekend's 36th annual American Music Awards. The veteran band is in the running in four categories heading into the event, including the all-genre Artist of the Year. Their other bids are in the Adult Contemporary category for Favorite Artist, and in the Pop/Rock category for Favorite Band, Duo, or Group and Favorite Album with "Long Road Out of Eden." The 2007 CD marked The Eagles' first collection of new studio material in nearly three decades, following 1979's "The Long Run." The classic rockers face Coldplay, who also has four chances to win, in the three Pop/Rock categories, while top nominee Alicia Keys and Daughtry are also among The Eagles' competition. Aretha Franklin and members of Aerosmith are also slated to take part in the event. The Queen of Soul will be on hand as a presenter, while rockers Steven Tyler and Joe Perry are expected to give what's being called a "special appearance." The 36th Annual American Music Awards will be presented in a ceremony at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles and air on ABC on Sunday.
