Lady Antebellum Proud Of New, Chart-Topping CD
Lady Antebellum's latest release, "Need You Now," is a chart-topper. The CD is entering both the Billboard Country Album chart and the all-genre Billboard 200 at number one. Band members are very proud of their disc. Lady A's Hillary Scott notes that they explore a wide emotional range in their songs.
Lady Antebellum's album far surpassed all others in sales in its first week out in stores. "Need You Now" moved 481-thousand copies -- more than three-times the number two disc, and more than eight-times that of the next debut. Following Lady Antebellum is the charity compilation "Hope For Haiti Now," which in its second week sold 143-thousand copies. Barry Manilow's "The Greatest Love Songs of All Time" is the second-highest new entry, landing at number five on sales of 57-thousand units. The rest of the Billboard 200 top five includes Lady GaGa's "The Fame" at number three, followed by Susan Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream."
With 481-thousand units sold, Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now" is the biggest January release in five years, following The Game's "The Documentary," which sold 587-thousand copies upon its arrival in January 2005. It's the best first-week sales for a country album since Taylor Swift's "Fearless," which sold 592-thousand copies after it hit stores in November 2008. |
