In 1980 -- David Bowie and wife Angela divorced after ten years of marriage. In 1981 -- R.E.M. made its first recordings at a studio in Georgia. In 1989 -- Anthrax's album "State Of Euphoria" was certified Gold. In 1994 -- Oasis was deported from Holland after engaging in a drunken brawl on a cross channel ferry. In 1996 -- The Goo Goo Dolls' album "A Boy Named Goo" was certified Platinum. In 1998 -- Chumbawamba singer Danbert Nobacon threw a bucket of cold water on the UK Deputy Prime Minister during the Brit Awards ceremony. In 2001 -- Metallica's Kirk Hammett, Bon Jovi's Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora, and Sting were among the nominees for the 2001 Orville H. Gibson Guitar Awards. In 2002 -- Sting performed at the opening ceremony for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Kiss' Gene Simmons made an in-store appearance at the Virgin Megastore in Times Square to meet fans and sign his autobiography, "Kiss and Make-Up" and the Kiss box set.
