2001 - Sting was nominated for a 2001 Orville H. Gibson Guitar Award in the Best Bassist (Male) category.
2002 - Sting performed at the opening ceremony for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
2004 - Beyonce Knowles and Luther Vandross were the big winners at the 46th Annual Grammy Awards. Knowles grabbed five trophies, while Vandross took home four. The ceremony took place in Los Angeles, and aired on CBS.
2006 - Kelly Clarkson took home two statues at the 48th Annual Grammy Awards. The inaugural winner of "American Idol" scored the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and the Best Pop Vocal Album. Mariah Carey walked away with three trophies, but all of them were given out during the pre-telecast portion of the show.
Fox's "American Idol" beat the Grammys broadcast in the Nielsen Ratings. "Idol" drew in over 28-million viewers, versus nearly 18-million for the Grammys.
2009 - Pop stars Chris Brown and Rihanna made headlines for a violent altercation that left Rihanna bloodied and bruised. The incident forced both singers to cancel their scheduled performances at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards. Brown later pleaded guilty for beating Rihanna. Winners at the event included Adele, John Mayer, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys, and Mary J. Blige.< |
