1984 - Michael Jackson's album "Thriller" marked 37 weeks at number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart, which was the longest any rock or pop album had held the top spot. Only the cast album of the musical "West Side Story" had a longer run, holding the number one position for 54 weeks.
Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" peaked at number two on the pop singles chart.
Phil Collins' "Against All Odds" and Lionel Richie's "Hello" broke into the Top 40.

1998 - Madonna released the single "Frozen."

Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men, Janet Jackson, and Sugar Ray were among the winners at the Blockbuster Entertainment Awards.
1999 - The Backstreet Boys were the big winner at the National Association of Recording Merchandiser's Best Sellers Awards.
2001 - Janet Jackson was on the cover of "TV Guide."
2003 - Sting was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Police.
2005 - Michael Jackson showed up over an hour late to his child molestation trial, causing the judge to threaten him with jail time. When Jackson finally arrived, he appeared weak and was wearing pajama bottoms and slippers. He had been treated at a local hospital for back problems.< |
